Monday night, we tasted 7 local Zinfandels, paired with my budget gourmet Mission pork sandwiches.  The lineup was

* Christie Vineyards 2007 Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley. $29/bottle.
* Pedroncelli 2008 Mother Clone Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley.  $15/bottle.
* Acorn Winery 2006 Heritage Vines Zinfandel, Russian River Valley, Alegría Vineyards.  $35/bottle.
* Wellington 2005 Estate Zinfandel, Sonoma Valley.  $25/bottle.
* Outpost 2007 Zinfandel, Howell Mountain.  $48/bottle.
* Cameron Hughes 2008 Zinfandel, Lodi.  $10/bottle at Costco.
* Muscardini Cellars 2009 Zinfandel (barrel sample), Sonoma Valley, Monte Rosso Vineyard.  $80/bottle.

These Mission pork sliders pair really well with a slightly sweet Zin.  The secret touch is a dab of Bolani Afghan jalapeño jelly, available at all farmers markets in San Francisco.  Cost per slider $2.  Recipe with map locations where to gather the ingredients in the Mission is here:,-122.419517&spn=0.004122,0.009645&z=17

Local wine tastings at the Secret Wine Shop every Monday night 5-8pm.  The way it works is you get to taste ~6 wines and give your opinion.  7:45pm the wines are revealed and the popular winners announced.

Next time: blind local Pinot Noir tasting.  Check our calendar for updates.
